Oakville Physiotherapy and Acupuncture (FAQs)
Are you an OHIP Clinic?
Unfortunately, our clinic is not an OHIP registered clinic. That being said, we can direct bill most insurance companies for; Physio, Massage and Chiropractic. If your in pain and you have coverage get in today. The difference between publicly funded health care and our clinic is dramatic.
When can I get in to see the physiotherapist in Oakville?
Usually same day appointments. If by chance we are completely booked we do have other therapists that can assist in pain relief until an appointment can be arranged. Our Physiotherapy team works 6 days a week to help you get the car you need. If they are over booked Dr. Jenn can usually make room in her busy schedule to treatment and acupuncture.
What other services do you offer at your physio clinic?
Our Oakville Physiotherapy Clinic offers Physio, Acupuncture, Shockwave, Chiropractic, Athletic Therapy, Custom Orthotics and Massage Therapy.
What’s the difference between the Chiropractor and Physiotherapist at your Oakville clinic?
At our clinic, not that much. The Chiropractor can do a manual adjustment and Physiotherapy will focus more on exercises. Both will do hands on (ART – Active Release Therapy) and use modalities, such as IFC and Shockwave. Both can be highly recommended in treating the majority of injuries and help with out of pocket cost by using your benefits.
Do you offer Acupuncture at your Oakville Clinic?
Yes we offer acupuncture. Our Oakville acupuncturist, Dr. Jenn, bills under Chiropractic so it frees up your physio coverage for other treatment. Acupuncture involves the insertion of thin metallic needles into the skin and muscles at very specific locations in the body. The depth of insertion varies based on the thickness of the tissue and the target of the therapy. Therapists are trained extensively in human anatomy to identify the specific acupuncture points, which are commonly points in the body where nerves run closer to the surface and can be affected by the needles. Acupuncture increases blood flow to an injured area to help nourish tissues and help them heal. Acupuncture also stimulates the nervous system to help decrease pain and improve function. It can effectively treat most injuries and conditions!
Who provides the acupuncture?
Our chiropractor, Dr. Jenn, provides the acupuncture in our clinic. She was trained at the acclaimed Contemporary Medical Acupuncture course at McMaster University.
What is Shockwave Treatment?
Shockwave therapy in our Oakville clinic is a treatment that involves a pneumatic gun type instrument. It pulses against the skin at a high rate (500 – 2000 beats per session). Shockwave helps breakup old deposited scar tissue and increase blood flow to a chronically injured area to help aid in healing.
Can you direct bill my insurance for physiotherapy?
Yes we can! We can direct bill the majority of insurance plans. If we cannot direct bill we will be happy to help with the paperwork
Do I need a Dr’s referral?
For Physiotherapy treatment a Dr’s referral is not needed. However, most insurance policies require a note to be covered. Call your insurance before you come in for your initial assessment to find out if a MD’s note is needed.
How long will my physiotherapy visit be?
Your visit can last between 30 – 45 minutes depending on your injuries. Plan for about 60 minutes for your initial physio assessment and 30 minutes for each subsequent visit.
How many visits do I need?
It all depends on a number of variables i.e severity of injury, how long the pain has been there, medical history, etc. Once you are evaluated the therapist will have a better understanding.
Who will be treating me?
Your assessment will be performed by the Physiotherapist. Treatment will be done by the Physiotherapist and Athletic Therapist.
