Our Oakville physiotherapy centre heals repetitive strain injuries
Repetitive strain injuries (RSI) are inflammatory conditions which occur in muscles that are overworked. The injury itself is a result of microtrauma. Microtrauma is any repetitive injury over a long period of time. When tissue is strained for long periods of time with minimal intervention, continuous flare ups are more likely to occur. In this case, patients at our Oakville physiotherapy centre require a detailed biomechanical movement and posture analysis to diagnose what is causing the repetitive strain injury.
Not all repetitive strain injuries are a localized injury, much of the time the joints above or below play a large factor. For example, although your patellar ligament may be strained over prolonged jumping activities (dancers), the true culprit may be the quadriceps inability to eccentrically load or the glutes inability to allow for proper hip rotations when the knee is being loaded. Therefore, the knee may be experiencing microtrauma, but the muscles and joints above may be the root cause.
