Group A by the end of the research proved that the physically fit mice had twice the number of nerve cells in the part of the brain that increase brain memory and learning. Then the group of researchers took it even farther and put their brain capacity to the test in a maze where the physically fit (Group A) mice completed the maze faster and took a more direct, effective route.
Rodents however are avid runners, which raised the question, Are long hours of aerobic activity required to see the positive effects of exercise on the brain, or might a more moderate exercise routine do the trick? The same test was done on monkeys of a variety of age, which underwent moderate physically activity compared to non-active monkeys and the same results were found.
