Well, it’s that time of year again. The official start of summer is fast approaching and people are realizing that they’re not as skinny as they’d like to be. So, they start working out, going for runs, and eating more healthy foods. The weight is starting to come off (very slowly, of course) but all of sudden you start to realize that the mild back and neck pain you’ve been experiencing is starting to get worse. You wake up early on Saturday morning for your jog, and you’re just too sore! The pattern continues, and the weight comes back on, just in time for summer.
This happens more than you might imagine! When we exercise, our muscles become damaged, but when they repair themselves, they become bigger and stronger. When a muscle becomes bigger, it exerts a different amount of force on whatever it’s attached to, whether it’s a tendon or a bone, and if the body isn’t ready to take on the extra load, things can get messed up.
The point: if you’re going to start becoming more active than your body is used to, be sure to see a good chiropractor who can help your body keep pace with your new active lifestyle.
