People with joint and muscle pain/stiffness will often tell you that they know when a change in weather is imminent based on the amount of stiffness or discomfort coming they’re presently experiencing. Some people would call it out as no more than an old wives tale, but it’s a fact. Barometric pressure can have huge effects on the body, and it is usually characterized by joint or muscle pain/stiffness.
How is that possible? Because the joints in our body consist of sensory nerves called baro-receptors, and when the temperature and humidity fluctuate, the receptors react (primarily related to air pressure). Higher temperatures usually don’t cause any sort of symptoms, but higher humidity definitely has tangible effects on the body.
The body is constantly under pressure, after all there is around 14 PSI of pressure on the body being exerted by the atmosphere at any given moment. When that pressure changes, for any reason, the body must adjust to it, and when it does that, stiffness and soreness can occur.
When this happens, chiropractic treatment can help your body to adjust faster to the changing pressure and alleviate some of the pain and get you back to normal so you can get on with your life! Come in a visit us here at Glen Abbey Physiotherapy.
