Oakville Custom Orthotics
Have you ever had hip or knee pain and wondered what might be causing it? Do you suffer from lower back pain or osteoarthritis but traditional treatments such as massage and physio aren’t helping the pain go away? Our Oakville Physiotherapists see soooo many patients who are wearing the wrong shoes which is causing their foot, leg or back pain.
What are Orthotics?
Orthotics can be used to treat a wide range of injuries and pain. Typically the pain people experience is coming from their feet and footwear as our feet are the foundation of our support. Orthotics has shown to help improve lower back and hip pain to feet and ankle pain. Custom orthotics are usually covered by insurance plans. Orthotics are prescribed shoe insoles that typically fit in the inside of any shoe. Through specific foot support, while we walk or move, Orthotics correct any functional or structural issues that are the underlying cause of our pain.
Why Should You Get Custom Orthotics?
(I think we should put a research article in this section)
The answer to this question can simply be because you need some extra support when you walk. However, you may also need a pair of Oakville custom orthotics because you have fallen arches, heel spurs, or bunions. Ignoring these issues can lead to serious pain all over the body. But with the simple addition of wearing custom orthotics can significantly reduce the effects of these common ailments. Why? Oakville Orthotics are specially fitted to your foot to provide support through the distribution of pressure and realigning the foot joints while standing, walking or running.
Who Needs Orthotics in Oakville?
It’s not just the elderly who can benefit from orthotics. Many athletes and individuals with medical problems such as diabetes, back pain, or spinal conditions have experienced improved health as a result of orthotics.
The inserts can relieve the symptoms of soft tissue inflammation such as plantar fasciitis, a condition experienced by many athletes or people who spend a lot of time on their feet.
Diagnosis for Orthotics
The Glen Abbey Physiotherapy offers exceptional expertise in the area of orthotics.
During the assessment, patients are fitted using a Dynamic Gait Scan and a Static Impression. These scans provides us with a better understanding of how you step. For instance, it indicates whether your feet are straight when you walk or if you favour a particular side of your foot and how your foot lands on the ground. The information from the Dynamic Gait Scan is transferred to a computer screen so you can see the strong and weak points of your foot and get a true impression of how you walk. Once the condition of the foot is understood, a moulding is taken and an orthotic insert is created to realign the foot. This helps patients walk straighter, taller and allows their feet to land in the proper place every time.
The result is improved movement and relief from pain symptoms.
