This is an example of a patient of ours who now needs knee replacements. I say “now” because, had he taken proper care of himself and his knees, he wouldn’t be in this position.
His problems resonated from his spine and feet. With proper chiropractic care and orthotics, he could have avoided the situation all together. Many people don’t realize that the spine effects the whole body, and if there are any problems with the spine, pretty much any joint in the skeleton can be affected. The patient originally had problems with his back, which in turn affected his hips, which then affected his knees, then came the ankles and feet. All of these things combined proved too much strain for his knees, and now he finds himself in a hospital bed awaiting an 8 hour surgery.
What does the future hold for our patient? Anywhere from 5 months to 5 years of rehab/physiotherapy treatment.
Approximate cost of the Surgery: $45,000, Covered by OHIP for Ontario residents only
Approximate cost of physio/rehab over 5 years: $8,000, out of pocket
Having knees that aren’t your own: PRICELESS!
